The good news: Starlink has no contracts and no cancellation fees. You can cancel anytime and your billing stops immediately. The whole process takes about 2 minutes.

Before You Cancel: Consider Pausing Instead

If you're cancelling for temporary reasons — travelling, moving, trying a different service, or just need to cut costs for a few months — Starlink's Pause Service feature might be better than a full cancellation.

When you pause:

  • Billing freezes immediately
  • You keep your account and hardware
  • You can reactivate at any time with no setup fees
  • You keep your service address (important if waitlists exist in your area)
  • Standby Mode costs $5/month to maintain minimal connectivity (optional)

If you cancel entirely and then try to sign up again later, you may face a wait if your area has a waitlist — or end up paying the same $349 for hardware again if your old equipment was returned or damaged. Pausing is almost always the better option if there's any chance you'll want Starlink again.

How to Cancel Starlink via the App

The easiest way to cancel is through the Starlink mobile app (iOS or Android).

  1. Open the Starlink app and sign in to your account
  2. Tap the Account icon (person icon, usually top-right)
  3. Select Manage Service
  4. Scroll down to find Cancel Service (it may be labelled "Cancel Subscription")
  5. Starlink will show you alternatives — such as pausing — before allowing full cancellation. Review these and proceed if you still want to cancel.
  6. Confirm the cancellation. Your service will end at the conclusion of your current billing period, or immediately (depending on the option you select).

You'll receive a cancellation confirmation email. Keep this for your records.

How to Cancel via the Starlink Website

If you prefer to cancel on a computer:

  1. Visit starlink.com and sign in
  2. Go to AccountSubscriptions
  3. Click on your active subscription
  4. Select Cancel Subscription
  5. Follow the prompts to confirm

What Happens After You Cancel?

Your Service End Date

If you cancel before your next billing date, service continues until that date — you've already paid for the month. Some accounts allow immediate cancellation with a partial refund; others end at the billing cycle. Check your cancellation confirmation email for the exact end date.

Your Hardware (Dish and Router)

You keep it. Starlink hardware is sold outright — it is not leased or rented. If you cancel, the dish, router, cables, and mounting hardware are yours to keep indefinitely. There is no obligation to return equipment.

However, if you cancel within the 30-day trial window and want a refund on the hardware, you must return the equipment in good condition. See the refund policy below.

Your Starlink Account

Your account remains active but inactive. If you want to reactivate later, log back in and resubscribe — no new hardware required (assuming your dish is still working).

Starlink's 30-Day Return Policy

If you're within your first 30 days of service and want a full refund on the hardware:

  • Request a return through your account or by contacting Starlink support
  • Pack and ship the hardware back in its original packaging (Starlink provides a prepaid return label)
  • Refund is issued within 5–10 business days of receiving the returned hardware
  • Monthly service fees already paid are refunded pro-rata

After 30 days, hardware purchases are final and non-refundable, even if you cancel service.

Cancelling Starlink Roam

Roam plan cancellations work the same way — through the app or website. If you're cancelling Roam and keeping Residential, go to Account → Subscriptions and cancel only the Roam subscription, not your main account.

Sold Your Home? Moving Internationally?

If you're moving to a new address, Starlink service is tied to your dish, not your address — you can usually just move the dish and reactivate at the new location. Check availability at your new address first. For international moves, Starlink's Roam plan allows use in 170+ countries.

Common Questions About Cancelling

Is there a cancellation fee?

No. Starlink has no contracts and no early termination fees. Cancel anytime for free.

Can I cancel by phone?

Starlink does not offer phone support. All account management, including cancellation, is done through the app or website.

If I cancel and want to come back, do I need to buy new hardware?

No — if you kept your hardware and your account is still on file, you can reactivate without buying a new dish. Just log in and resubscribe. Your dish will work as long as it's in good condition.

Can I sell my Starlink hardware after cancelling?

Yes. You own the hardware outright. Starlink dishes are sold on eBay, Facebook Marketplace, and Craigslist. Note that the dish and account are linked — the new owner will need to create their own Starlink account to activate the dish at their address.
